8 min read

Being an Effective Leader and Follower for Positive Change

For this Discussion, you are asked to consider what you have learned on being an effective leader and follower and discuss how this can help to promote positive social change in your professional or personal life.

Resources

Review the Learning Resources from Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3 as a refresher on leadership.

Review the Learning Resources from Week 5, Week 6, and Week 7 on what followership is, the leader-follower interactions, and how leadership and followership are interconnected.

Review your results on “The Big Five Project Personality Test.”

By Day 3

Post a summary of your thoughts on how being an effective follower can promote positive social change. Be sure to include the following:

  • Describe the positive social change to which you could or would like to contribute as an effective leader and follower.
  • From your Week 4 Discussion and your acquired knowledge from Week 7, explain how leadership can help to promote this positive social change.
  • Applying what you have learned about being an effective follower, share your thoughts on how these attributes can help to promote this change. Consider the following:
    • Working effectively as a team member
    • Offering suggestions for improvement
    • Being a resource for the leader
    • Helping the leader be a better leader

Refer to the Week 8 Discussion Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this grading rubric to assess your work.

Read some of your colleagues’ postings.

By Day 5

Respond to two or more of your colleagues’ posts in one or more of the following ways:

  • Describe an insight you gained from reading your colleague’s posting.
  • Compare how what your colleague posted relates to your own thoughts and/or to the concepts discussed throughout the course to date.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.
