You’ve read several stories from The Violence Almanac in this last unit. For your research, I ask you to focus on characters from the text, a theme connected to those characters, and the violence in their stories.
For example, I might focus on Andrea Yates, James, and Corey’s stepfather (characters), Gender Expectations (theme), cultural violence, and systemic violence.
In my research, I will seek if the author’s representation of the character seems accurate.
For example, Miah Jeffa, the author of The Violence Almanac seems sympathetic to Andrea Yates and Jeff and places just as much blame on cultural and systemic violence for the murders they commit.
If this is the perspective I am researching, I will investigate if the violence Yates and Jeff suffered could lead to murderous actions. My research might show that the system isn’t to blame, and it all falls on Andrea and Jeff, or it might prove the author was correct in his representation of the character. It could also prove something in the middle.
This project has 3 parts.
There is a template that will guide you through your research collection. Use the template.
The template, Violence Almanac Research Outline.docx, will guide you through completing the 3 tasks below.
An Introduction to your focus: The introduction will include an introduction of the characters, theme, and types of violence you will focus on, which will later inform your paper’s thesis (the thesis will assert if the author’s representation of a character is plausible based on your research). You won’t be able to form a true thesis until after you have done your research.
The Research:
You will collect at least 3 pieces of research that support/inform your focus
You will create a quote log that represents a connection to a particular piece of research and the character(s) you are focused on.
You will copy at least three quotes from every piece of research. You will connect an excerpt from the research to a quote from the The Violence Almanac. At this point, you will not need any expository writing that explains the connection. You just need a quote from the research that connects the character(s).
Comments from Customer
You have good research here and a you have connected them throughout to “Growl” but your focus is on Corey and you don’t have direct quotes from the story that prove your assumptions about Corey’s life. You need quotations from that story to support and connect your claim to your research. Without them, your scores are dragged down because each paragraph is missing a critical part of your ethos and logos. Please insert quotes from “Footfall” that support your arguments and then I can regrade.
please check again on the boxes stating “quotes from the violence almanic” change to quotes from “football” chapter story on Corey
