Overview
To form a research basis for your program planning, you will prepare a literature review focused on the problem, your target population, and evidence-based or best practices related to your proposed solutions to provide substantiation for the decisions you make regarding your program. You will also provide evidence that your program offers a logical approach. Literature reviews should be selective and
critical, but not too broad, and should present your evaluation of pertinent current research that will inform and substantiate your plans for the specific proposed program. The focus of a literature review is to summarize and synthesize the arguments and ideas of others without adding new contributions.
Instructions
The literature review should be organized with headings and subheadings to guide the reader. Begin your assignment by providing a brief introduction to the literature review and a description of the
problem to be addressed by the proposed program. In the body of the paper:
• Synthesize the research literature identifying risk and protective factors related to the identified
problem and target population as the research basis for the program design.
• Evaluate the conclusions and findings of two or more evidence-based or best practice programs or
models related to the prevention of the identified problem that specifically can inform and
substantiate the rationale for the proposed program design.
• Analyze cultural issues as well as any ethical or legal considerations that might impact working with
your population in delivering the proposed program.
