Sports analytics
This is a 1500 word report which will compose of two parts:
(a) Individual Report Sheet: Individual player report sheet on the chosen individual from the assigned sport from your case study, presented via statistics. This should be one A4 page and should include appropriate figures and images. This is equivalent of ~300 words for the assessment.
(b) A review of the information provided in the above report sheet. This should provide justification for why you have selected the individual, based on case study requirements and using academic evidence. This should be ~1200±10% words with 1.5 line spacing, in Arial font, size 12.
Overall, the report should contain:
1. Report Sheet: One A4 page clearly presenting the selected data and information from the spreadsheet, through use of figures and images
2. Introduction: Introduction to your case study, including an introduction to your sport and an introduction to PIs (performance indicators) and player profiling (specifically within your assigned sport). This should include reference to academic literature.
3. Rationale and Comment: Provide an overview of the PIs you have selected, and then a justification for the selected PIs, relating to both the sport and case study specifications. This process should be repeated for the fitness testing results. This section should ultimately justify why the individual on the report sheet has been selected for your team and fits the requirements of the case study. This should include reference to academic literature.
4. Conclusion: A conclusion to your report, summarising key points.
5. References: Include all references used in the report. Referencing style should be Harvard. For help with referencing please visit http://www.citethemrightonline.com.
An appendices should also be included, which includes work completed on Excel spreadsheet (standardising, conditional formatting, process of elimination etc.) same as in the example is attached on PDF.
Case study is in the photos next page and Basketball data set for shooting guard players in excel. A sample of report is been attached with PDF.
All the excel formulas are needed for the report is written below.
Comparison is needed with the top 3 players in the Excel data set or pick one of top shooting guard players in the NBA with available statics, same as sample.
please check the example report before you start the work.
Thanks.
Excel Formulas
Average: =AVERAGE
Standard Deviation: =STDEV
Total or Sum: =SUM
Minimum Value: =MIN
Maximum Value: =MAX
Median Value: =MEDIAN
Interquartile Range: Quartile 3- Quartile 1
=QUARTILE (SELECT NUMBERS, 3)- QUARTILE (SELECT NUMBERS,1)
Cell Referencing/ Automation
Cell referencing allows us to keep cells where they are if we drag formulae cells downwards/across.
If we want to drag our cells DOWNWARDS, but want to keep the cells in the column in the same place, we put the ‘$’ in front of the NUMBERS
– We do not want the cells moving down!
If we want to drag our cells ACROSS, we put the ‘$’ in front of the LETTERS.
– We do not want the cells moving across!
If we want our cells to remain in EXACTLY THE SAME PLACE regardless of where we are dragging the cells, we put the ‘$’ in front of the NUMBER and LETTER!
Conditional Formatting
If we want cells to respond to a rule/condition, we can apply conditional formatting to the cells!
Click, conditional formatting, add a new rule to your selection and decide on the most appropriate conditions to fit your rule!
I.e. colours to show above or below average…
Cells that only contain…Cell values between ____ and ____ Format, select colour, OK
Z Scores
=(value-mean)/standard deviation
For all values, select cell with that specific value in
Percentiles
=PERCENTILE(array,k)
Array= array of cells you want to calculate a percentile from
K= percentile
Either 0.1 or if cell says 10% can select that cell
Same for all other percentiles
