This assignment will show your ability to understand a community, assess a community, and assess a community/social problem they experience. This could be the community your field placement serves, the community you live in, or the community in which you are employed. In order to do this, you will use the framework learned in Topic 4 and the framework learned in Topic 6. Using Zoom, create a video presentation describing the following items. They can be in any order in the presentation that makes the most sense for you: • Framework Task 1 (Topic 4): Identify the Community: Define the community, describing the community’s dimensions and its functions (using the text for context). Discuss the population that is a member of this community. Discuss any geographical boundaries and the culture of the community. • Framework Task 2 (Topic 4): Data: Present existing data about the community needs, issues, and problems. Ensure you identify your data sources. • Framework Task 3 (Topic 4): Community Assets: What are the values of this community? What strengths and resiliencies are present? How would you describe the power structure (including both formal and informal leaders) within this community? Who are the senators or legislators representing the community and their goals? What social policy is impacting this community’s well-being, service delivery, and access to social services? • Framework Task 4 (Topic 4): Structure and Capacity: What formal and informal resources are present in the community? What patterns of influence, control, and service delivery do you see? • Framework Task 1 (Topic 6): Gather information from persons within the community. Speak to people within the community and report the information they shared about the social problem, need, or opportunity. • Framework Task 2 (Topic 6): Select a social problem that is experienced in the community and explore the professional knowledge base on the condition, problem, need, or opportunity. • Framework Task 3 (Topic 6): Frame the social problem and develop a working hypothesis. Within your video presentation, refer to Social Work Disposition #9: Standard: Social Workers’ Ethical Responsibilities to Practice Settings. Include a minimum of three pictures representing the community you chose. Note: Please make sure to get permission to use photos and/or do not include the faces of clients. The Zoom video presentation should be a minimum of 20 minutes in length. To schedule your Zoom recording, refer to the Zoom resources in the Study Materials folder to assist you. Once the recording has stopped, the recording must be processed before viewing it. Zoom will send an email to the host’s email address when the process is completed. Provide the link to your recorded Zoom presentation to your instructor. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
