Identify the purpose of a mapping matrix and explain how it is used to maintain the rigour of the assessment process.

Section 2: Analyse an assessment tool
Scenario Your manager has asked you to assess the four learners from Learner Cohort 2. They are completing a different training program at AWT that is a cluster of two complete units of competency. The learners have completed the training portion of the training program and now need to be assessed to determine if they have developed the required knowledge and skills. Before you assess the learners, you will need to conduct an analysis of the assessment tool for the training program to ensure the tool covers the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence.
Student Instructions

This task requires you to conduct an analysis of an assessment tool against its mapping matrix to ensure the tool covers the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence.
Steps to follow:
Step 1: Access the AWT Intranet Learner Repository to locate the following documents for the training program:
Assessment documents
Marking guide
Mapping matrix
Relevant TAS
Step 2: Download the document AWT Assessment Analysis Form and complete this form by:
Accessing the National Register of VET (training.gov.au) and locating the two units of competency that make up the training program
Using the mapping matrix to check all components of the units of competency have been sufficiently documented and covered in the assessment tool
Accessing the assessment tool and checking the information contained in the assessment tool correlates to the mapping matrix
Accessing the Australian Skills Quality Authority website to check the assessment tool complies with the principles of assessment and rules of evidence
Your completed Assessment Analysis Form must be uploaded to the e-Learning portal.
Section 3: Determine reasonable adjustment and customisation of assessment process
Scenario Now that you have reviewed the assessment tool, you will need to review the foundation skill requirements of the units of competency against the foundation skill levels of the four learners. You will have already determined the learning and/or additional needs of your learners in Task 4. Use this information to determine how you can customise the assessment process and determine if any reasonable adjustment is required. All documents required to complete this activity are located in the AWT Intranet.
Student Instructions

This task requires you to review the foundation skill requirements of the units of competency against each learner profile to determine:

Whether the learner requires foundation skill support
How you can customise the assessment process for the learner
If reasonable adjustment is required
If specialist support is required
Steps to follow:

Step 1: Access the AWT Intranet and locate the four learner profiles.
Step 2: Access the National Register of VET (training.gov.au) and locate the two units of competency that make up the training program.
Step 3: Download the AWT Learner’s Needs Analysis Form.
Step 4: Complete a separate AWT Learner’s Needs Analysis Form for each learner (you will complete a total of four (4) forms) by:
Reviewing the foundation skill requirements of the units of competency
Reviewing the information provided about the four learners being assessed
Identifying how you could customise the assessment process to suit their individual needs and whether reasonable adjustment is required
Step 5: Download and complete the AWT LLND External Support Form as required.

Your four completed Learner’s Needs Analysis Forms and LLND External Support Form/s must be uploaded to the e-Learning portal.

Section 4: Develop an assessment plan
Scenario Now that you have reviewed the assessment tool and analysed your learners’ needs, your manager has asked that you develop an assessment plan. The assessment plan will provide an overview of the information you have already gathered in preparation for the assessment as well as additional details to help you further prepare for the assessment process. The assessment will take place at Australia Wide Training in one of the training classrooms and the practical training area.
Student Instructions

This task requires you to develop an assessment plan. You will be required to use the assessment plan in Tasks 9 and 10.

Steps to follow:

Step 1: Access and download the AWT Assessment Plan Template from the AWT Intranet.
Step 2: Develop an assessment plan using the information collected throughout the previous sections of this assessment.
Step 3: Ensure that your assessment plan outlines the:
Training program being assessed and the competency benchmark standards
Context of the assessment
Summary of your target group
Summary of the customisations and reasonable adjustments you need to apply as per the results from your learners’ needs analyses
Health and safety requirements
The resources and equipment required for assessment
Your responsibilities to ensure the learners are ready for assessment
What the learners need to do to ensure they are ready for assessment
