Sustainable Development Goals Community Engagement Plan
12 Slides
- Review the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
- Choose one SDG that interests you.
- Decide how you can engage in your community or facility to connect the SDG of choice at the local level. Your engagement at the community level (where you live, work, or play) can be either real or hypothetical. Ideally, you can use your work to impact real change in your community. For example, contact a hospital to promote breastfeeding (see if they need an educational poster); explore and address needs of a homeless shelter (or volunteer); coordinate food donations that you can bring to a food pantry; contact a local rotary club. Many Rotary Clubs are active in promoting improved water supply to a developing country. Possibly, go to a meeting or meet with a representative to learn more about what is being done. If you choose not to participate in tangible ways, you can explore a local organization remotely to consider their needs.
- Consider how policy has impacted populations in this community and how policy can advance the SDG through improvement of health outcomes.
- Then develop a short presentation using Panopto and Powerpoint. Record your PPT presentation using Panopto and upload it to the Assignments folder in this class’s Panopto folder. The presentation should not be longer than 15 minutes. Submission of this presentation is due Sunday at midnight.
- The presentation needs to include the following points and answer the following questions:
- Title & Overview of Global Health issue you chose
- Introduce the SDG you chose. Why is it important important? Provide current evidence related to your choice.
- Identify your chosen community and describe how the community relates to the selected SDG.
- What are the policy implications? How has policy impacted this population and how can policy advance the SDG through improvement of health outcomes?
- Outline how you will address the SDG in your selected community.
- Please watch several of your peers’ presentations and comment on at least 2.
