Practicum Presentation Revision[WLOs: 1, 2] [CLOs: 1, 3, 4, 5]

In each of the practicum courses, you are given two opportunities to receive feedback on your practicum presentation. Take this opportunity to seek feedback from your instructor. Ensure that your practicum and presentation clearly align to public health/population health and do not simply focus on the site where your practicum is taking place.

In your presentation,

  • Using the provided Practicum Presentation Template Download Practicum Presentation Template, the feedback from your instructor and classmates from Week 4, and the Hepatitis A Practicum Exemplar Download Hepatitis A Practicum Exemplar, develop your Practicum Presentation. The Practicum Presentation must have a minimum of 13 to 15 PowerPoint slides that take at least 15 minutes but not more than 30 minutes to present.
• Demonstrate clear connections between the practicum and public health.
• Align the CEPH competencies to practicum work.
• Integrate images to support the content.
• Complete the minimum slide requirement.

Each practicum is at a different point in terms of knowledge acquired, hours logged, and goals achieved. The expectation is that as your hours progress to 90 hours, the quality of your presentation will improve until your presentation is deemed appropriate for your live presentation with your MPH faculty advisor and the MPH full time faculty.

Scenario 

You are a first-year technical trainee engineer working in a large manufacturing company producing structural members that are to be used in a new construction project. Your supervisor has asked you carry out some experiments to find out how beams react to different types of loading, and then perform several calculations to confirm the findings of the experiments. The experiments and calculations relate to shear and bending in beams. 

Task 1

• You need to:
  • Create a mathematical model of the shear force and bending moments for each beam arrangement.
  • For each, you need to present your findings as annotated shear force and bending moment diagrams.
  • Use your diagrams to identify significant data, including maximum and minimum values, and points of contra flexure.
  • Safely set up apparatus for each beam arrangement using simple and complex loading. Once set up, you need to gather experimental results for each beam.
• Once you have completed all your experiments, you need to produce a short report in your log book that considers both the theoretical values and the measured values for each of the various beam arrangements.
  • In your report, you will need to evaluate (give reasons for) the differences between the theoretical values and experimental values, including ways that you could improve (e.g., the experimental accuracy) the experiments if they were repeated.

This assignment is going to build on Assignments 1 and 2 and the feedback you received from your instructor. You will be crafting an argument that addresses potential obstacles to effectively applying EEBDM (from Week 6) as they relate to your project topic. Essentially, you will be making this argument: Conflicts that arise could affect my use of EEBDM. 

Step 1: Begin constructing your argument map using claim 1.1: Conflicts that arise could affect my use of EEBDM. 

Step 2: Identify 3 conflicts mentioned in Week 6 that could pop up and affect your use of EEBDM. Here are the options:

• Ethics conflicts with evidence
• The need for evidence conflicts with situational constraints (e.g., time pressure)
• Some evidence conflicts with other evidence
• One ethical obligation conflicts with another
• One stakeholder group’s needs/wants conflict with those of another stakeholder group’s (a special case of the previous item in the list according to stakeholder theory)
• What the evidence says conflicts with how people feel about the issue
• Evidence-based conclusions conflict with the agendas of relevant influencers.

Step 3: Identify why each of the conflicts you identified in Step 1 could affect your use of EEBDM (i.e., why each might have an adverse effect on your use of EEBDM). These will form the 2.x level of your argument map (along with any needed siblings/co-premises). 

Step 4. Provide any additional explanation why for each of those conflicts. These will form relevant premises below the 2.x level (see 3.1 and 3.2 in the example map below).

Step 5.  Identify ways to reduce the effect of each conflict. These will form the cornerstone of your rebuttals. Note that this is one argument where hanging rebuttals are called for (see 4.1, 5.3, 5.4, and 4.7 in the example map).

Step 6. Add sticky notes to relevant parts of your argument map to identify where course content informs your argument (see multiple examples in assignment example). Your argument map is required to include a minimum of 5 citations of course content.

Step 7. Finalize your map and download it as both a pdf and as an image (png or jpeg only) file (you must do each separately).

Step 8. Construct your assignment in Word using the format below.

7. References (APA-formatted references constructed using Citation Machine). You are required to have a minimum of 5 course-specific references that were also cited in the map and text. 

Step 9. Submit both the Word version from Step 8 AND the pdf of just the argument map (from Step 7) as the assignment documents. 

• The Word document should be no more than 5 total pages of text written in Times New Roman 12-point font, double spaced.

Select a hospital-acquired condition (HAC) that is relevant to a health care context with which you are familiar. Create a two to three page report that includes the research-based explanation of the background of a problem associated with your chosen HAC, as well as develop appropriate research problem and purpose statements.

For this assessment, you will craft a qualitative research question based on the hospital-acquired condition you selected for the Research Problem and Purpose Statements, as well as examine qualitative methodologies and data collection strategies that would enable you to answer your research question. There is no length requirement for this assessment. Most submissions that fully address all scoring guide criteria will be two to five pages in length.

For this assessment, you will craft a quantitative research question based on the hospital-acquired condition you selected for the Research Problem and Purpose Statements, as well as examine quantitative methodologies and data collection strategies that would enable you to answer your research question.

For this assessment you will develop a thorough five to nine page research plan based upon your work on previous assessments. The plan will be based on either qualitative or quantitative methodologies but not both. In addition to refining your previous work, you will also discuss the concepts of reliability and validity as they pertain to data collection.

For the final project, remember what you wanted to be growing up. Develop a React web application about it with the following requirements:

1. Create a new React application about your first interest as a child.
2. Set up at least four pages and use the routing to navigate between the pages.
3. Include at least four components.
4. On at least two components, include data in a table, list, or paragraph form by using GraphQL or JSON.
5. On at least two components, include a form for adding data to a table or a contact form.
6. Use Bootstrap 5 or CSS to style the pages to make them look presentable.
7. Zip and submit the files you added or edited only and the application running in screenshots (minimum of 4) or a video screen recording (minimum of 1 minute).

Introduction:

Your participation and leadership in interdisciplinary teams will be vital to the health outcomes for your patients and organization. One way to approach designing an improvement project is to use the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement describes it thus:

The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle is shorthand for testing a change in the real work setting—by planning it, trying it, observing the results, and acting on what is learned. This is the scientific method adapted for action-oriented learning…Essentially, the PDSA cycle helps you test out change ideas on a smaller scale before evaluating the results and making adjustments before potentially launching into a somewhat larger scale project (n.d.).

You might also recognize that the PDSA cycle resembles the nursing process. The benefit of gaining experience with this model of project design is that it provides nurses with an opportunity to ideate and lead improvements. For this assessment, you will not be implementing all of the PDSA cycle. Instead, you are being asked to interview a health care professional of your choice to determine what kind of interdisciplinary problem he or she is experiencing or has experienced in the workplace. This interview, in Assessment 2, will inform the research that you will conduct to propose a plan for interdisciplinary collaboration in Assessment 3.

It would be an excellent choice to complete the PDSA Cycle activity prior to developing the report. The activity consists of four questions that create the opportunity to check your understanding of best practices related to each stage of the PDSA cycle. The information gained from completing this formative will promote your success with the Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification report. This will take just a few minutes of your time and is not graded.
