Healthcare in the U.S. and Abroad

As the manager of a community healthcare clinic, you are on the frontlines of healthcare, connecting people with the information and resources they need, and this includes our leaders. In recent years, you have witnessed debates about healthcare systems policy on the rise within your community as well as at the local, state, and national levels. Knowing the significance of this issue for your community, you decide to put together a pamphlet for legislators to help them craft better healthcare legislation. You want your pamphlet to inform legislators about the existing U.S. healthcare system and, in order to evaluate proposed reforms and initiatives, how our system compares with the healthcare systems of other countries. Your pamphlet will include a point-by-point comparison of the U.S. healthcare system with the systems of two other countries as well as an objective analysis of how the healthcare policies of all three countries deal with two issues that are significant for your community.

    Part I: Healthcare Systems Compared

Complete Part 1 of the Healthcare in the U.S. and Abroad template as follows:

    1. Research the healthcare systems of foreign countries of your choice and select two countries whose healthcare systems differ from each other and from that of the United States; enter the names of these two countries as column headers. (Note: You may want to review the Global Health Observatory (GHO) data provided in the resources).
    2. Analyze the healthcare systems of the United States as well as of the two countries that you have selected by inserting the information for each row as described on the template.
    3. Use at least two credible sources and insert endnotes with APA style citations for your data.

Part II: Health Issues and Policies Compared

Complete Part 2 of the Healthcare in the U.S. and Abroad template as follows:

    1. Select two health issues that are significant in your community that could be addressed by healthcare policy initiatives. (You can find these issues by interviewing health professionals in the area or by searching on healthcare databases.) Insert these two health issues into the table where indicated on the template.
Note: If you do not live in the U.S., use the community where you intend to practice.
    2. For each of the two health issues, in the appropriate row, write a 1- to 2-paragraph analysis of the scope of the health issue in the U.S.
    3. For each of the two health issues, research health policy that is related to the health issue and select one policy to discuss; write the name of the policy in the designated place. Then, write a 1- to 2-paragraph analysis of the impact of the policy on the health issue.
Note: The policy may address the health issue successfully or unsuccessfully.
    4. For each of the two health issues, research the scope of the selected health issue in each of the two foreign countries you selected and, in the appropriate rows, write a 1- to 2-paragraph analysis of the scope of the health issue in each country.
    5. For each of the two health issues, research health policy that is related to the health issue in each of the two foreign countries you selected and select one policy of each country to discuss; write the names of the policies in the designated places. Then, write a 3- to 5-sentence analysis of the impact of the selected policy within its country.
Note: The policies may address the health issue successfully or fail to adequately address the health issue.
    6. For each of the two health issues, write a 1- to 2-paragraph analysis comparing how the policies of the three countries prioritize stakeholders in their treatment of the issue.
    7. For each of the two health issues, write a 1- to 2-paragraph analysis comparing the outcomes and impact of the policies of the three countries.
    8. Use at least two scholarly sources and insert endnotes with APA style citations for your data.

    2. Traditional Measurement and Bill of Quantities Preparation

    Assessment Overview

Today, most bills of quantities are produced using proprietary software packages, each system having its own format for inputting dimensions and formulating descriptions. However, knowledge of measurement conventions is useful to fully understand and appreciated potential problems in the measurement process. The ability to take off manually is an essential skill for any Quantity Surveyor.

    Scenario

The construction industry is and will continue to be, a key driver of economic recovery as we move back towards normality, and it is critical that the industry plays its part in this recovery and create a more diverse sector. Land availability has become increasingly problematic for smaller firms. Everyone needs access to secure, decent housing. In the UK, housing supply has not been keeping up with demand. Getting access to housing of any type is becoming increasingly difficult for low-income households.

You are a trainee Quantity Surveyor employed by a renowned international engineering, design, and project/cost management consultancy company. Your employer has asked you to provide professional building quantifications and cost consultancy services for drawings attached to this coursework brief on Blackboard.

  • Business Ethics and Responsible Management Semester 1 Assignment, URBS, UK

    Assessment Brief

You will be expected to show that you understand the importance of individual and organisational ethical thinking and practice and that you can apply ethical decision making. You will also need to show that you can think critically about the role of business in society. Further, you will need to show that you have understand the way in which theory can underpin how ethical issues are viewed, but also that you understand that theory offers a guide but not necessarily the answer to practice. The assessment also requires you to show that you have reflected on what makes an ethical leader and manager and what that means in the context of organisational culture.

An extensive rubric is provided which will show you how the work is marked and what is required to achieve high marks.

Your assessment into two parts with part 1 being further split into two.  Part 1 is split into 2 because both parts require you to use the case you chose from the three available; part 2 is NOT related to the case. Read the requirements below and read the case carefully, it also has advice on how to answer. You should attempt all three parts. You will submit all three parts together in the same submission.

Do You Need Assignment of This Question

    Order Non Plagiarized Assignment

You should look at the following cases of businesses that have attracted attention due to some aspect of practice – each will be outlined in a separate case brief on Moodle. You should choose the ONE of these that interests you and complete the following:

    Part 1

You are required to write a brief report for senior managers at the case of your choosing. This report is written from the perspective of a junior manager tasked by senior managers to outline the ethical issues of the case. You will need to explore a number of factors including – Why should this be explored as an ethical question? You should identify what you think is the ethical problem – for example the unfair exploitation of a person, group of people or resource; or maybe it is a lack of integrity, dishonesty or somehow the company has disregarded either the values it espouses (you may want to look and see what your company says its values are), or values that you think society might assumed a company should hold. You can see- it could be a variety of things and we are interested in how you assess the case.

Then you will review how the company might want to think about the role of business in society? This is where you will use the Friedman and Freeman ideas – look at the case outline, again we talk a little about this there. You would want to review class 2 as well where we cover the idea of shareholder primacy versus stakeholder management.

You will also need to outline who the key stakeholders are and in what way they are affected. This part is crucial – you should think about who/what is affected at the time the decision was made. We can – we assume – think that the company was not expecting to hit the headlines in the way it clearly has/did. So we are NOT looking for you to start by saying shareholders were hit through bad publicity – what company would make a decision knowing that it would lose value in this way? So – think about the time the company made the decision to sell its product in the way reported, or employ staff on the terms it does. Think about the example of the water companies, presumably when they used the environment to dispose of waste they were not thinking that they would get such negative attention,  what was the company thinking (or not) at the time?

You should include research into examples of how ethical choices impact on other companies (e.g where is there research that shows good choices benefit companies and bad choices have a negative impact?). We are looking for MUCH deeper thought and research than ‘VW lost values when it lied about emissions’ or that ‘Patagonia have a good CSR policy’ (or indeed the recent news that Patagonia is being given to charity!). Rather, we want you to find academic research – how do staff react when they know that they are working for a company with good values? Do consumers actually buy more from companies with good reputations and less from those that, are reckless with how they use raw materials? We will cover more of this in the seminar in week 4

Finally you should conclude with some recommendations for what the company should do – you can do something to rectify the problem, but in some cases at least the company has already started that. Rather, we would like you to think about what this case says about your chosen company. If they can make a decision like this on, for example, advertising, would we think that ‘ethics’ are at the forefront of other decisions they make? How can you recommend they make ALL their decisions better?

This part of your assessment should be written as a report, but should be referenced in the normal academic way using Harvard citations and referencing.

    1. For this part you should again use your chosen case study – but this time choose TWO ethical theories and demonstrate that you can apply these to the case to show how your chosen theories lead you to a view on the ethics of the case. You should choose theories we have explored in class, but if you have chosen to research a different ethical tradition, for example Islamic ethics, you may use that; it would be useful if you confirm with your tutor if you wish to use an idea not fully covered in class.

This part is to be written in a more academic style

    Your choices for cases are:

    • Boening: The tension between cost and safety
    • Deliveroo: The experience of delivery drivers
    • Schein:  Fast fashion and sustainability

Each of these is on Moodle and is linked to an article and background material related to the story.

    Part 2

Part 2 is NOT related to the case study. This section requires you to discuss what makes an ethical leader and how you would, as an ethical manager, manage your business and/or others to a high ethical standard.

You will need to think about personal ethics, about the conditions that bring about unethical organisations and practices, about organisational values and methods of compliance.

It is highly recommended that to refer to the week on leadership and use the material we use in class from Trevino et al which you will find on your reading list.

    Marking and feedback process

Between you handing in your work and then receiving your feedback and marks within 20 days, there are a number of quality assurance processes that we go through to ensure that students receive marks which reflects their work. A brief summary is provided below.

    • Step One – The module and marking team meet to agree standards, expectations and how feedback will be provided.
    • Step Two – A subject expert will mark your work using the criteria provided in the assessment brief.
    • Step Three – A moderation meeting takes place where all members of the teaching and marking team will review the marking of others to confirm whether they agree with the mark and feedback.
    • Step Four – Work at Levels 5 and 6 then goes to an external examiner who will review a sample of work to confirm that the marking between different staff is consistent and fair.
    • Step Five – Your mark and feedback is processed by the Office and made available to you.

  • imagine you will suddenly need to leave the area you are currently living in and travel by foot (or wheel chair/other mobility aid if you normally use one, but not any vehicles) about 1,500 miles

This assignment is a hypothetical exercise. For this assignment, imagine you will suddenly need to leave the area you are currently living in and travel by foot (or wheel chair/other mobility aid if you normally use one, but not any vehicles) about 1,500 miles (about 2,400 km) (for example, if you are currently in Reno, Nevada this would put you in about Kansas City, Kansas if you traveled East, or around Edmonton, AB, Canada if you traveled North, etc.). You can pick any new destination that is roughly 1,500 miles away from your current location (as a note, this is about the distance many migrants travel to get to the United States).
For this assignment, please: Create a visual presentation with voice-over (a Power Point presentation with speech, Prezi, a video, uploaded images with voice-over, etc.). You can be creative with this assignment so long as there are both audio and visual elements. Make sure that you answer all of the 10 questions about in your presentation. OR You will need to write a 3-page (minimum) paper that includes at least 5 visual aids (such as pictures of maps, items, etc.). Make sure that you answer all of the 10 questions about in your paper. (Please note that large images will not count towards the total length of your paper.) This assignment was inspired, in part, by “The Social Life of Things Download The Social Life of Things” featured on page 476 of Chapter 13 in the textbook “Cultural Anthropology: A Toolkit for a Global Age” (Guest 2020)1.(I have linked that reading here Download here.) In that excerpt the discussion of what people carry, and discard, as they travel (often by foot) across borders is presented as a site for archaeological and material culture research. Additionally, in the video “The Trek: A Migrant Trail to America | The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper (CNN 2023)” (found within Chapter 8 Videos / Pre-Reading Links) the abandoned material objects were shown as sometimes the sole remaining evidence that a person existed, and passed through. You can take whatever you want on your imaginary journey, so long as you could carry it. Also, consider that you would likely not be welcomed at borders, and consider the environment, season/s, and terrain of the distance you would, hypothetically, be traveling; along with how you would meet your basic needs along the way, and once you arrived at your destination. Cover these questions in your presentation: What are your starting and end points (e.g. Reno to Edmonton, etc.); what is the exact distance in miles or kilometers? Realistically, about how long would it take you to get there by foot (considering distance, your average rate of speed, rest time, overnight stops etc.). What are the various environments and terrains you would be passing through; include weather forecasts and what would be your plans for dealing with different weather during the different seasons. How would you plan to meet your basic human needs (food/water/shelter) while traveling. Describe the items you would, hypothetically, bring with you. You would be leaving everything else you own behind. Why would these items be useful, needed, and/or meaningful? Are any of these items culturally significant (not just basic human needs)? Which ones, how so? Now imagine you had to discard several items along the way (at least two or more items); which items would you discard? What would be the most likely reason you would have to discard these items, where would they mostly likely be discarded, and why did you choose those particular items to discard? What would be your plan once you arrived at your destination in terms of work, resources, contact, legal issues, etc.? You may add any other relevant details or ideas to this outline if you want, so long as you cover the basic 9 points above.
