(Full marks: 100)Artificial Intelligence (AI) has advanced rapidly in recent years, reshaping industries such as healthcare, finance and education. Despite promising increased efficiency, productivity and innovation, attitudes towards AI are mixed. While there is excitement around AI’s ability to offer convenience and solve complex problems, there are also concerns around the displacement of jobs and ethical use of AI. A research team in Germany has developed a novel questionnaire to measure an individual’s attitudes towards AI and have used it to identify associations between various personality traits and attitudes towards AI. Their research findings offer insights into how government
and companies could increase the acceptability and adoption of AI-related innovations among the masses.
Read the following journal article for more information about the study. You may access the article via SUSS Library.

Analyse and critique the study in the journal article above. You are required to apply relevant concepts and information from the course materials, given journal article and additional research to answer the following questions. Please include at least 5 academic references (textbooks, journal articles, or book chapters) in your response to this TMA.
(a) In the article, the researchers reported how they assessed the validity of their newly developed scale, ATTARI-12. Discuss TWO other types of validity evidence that these researchers could use to assess the English-language version of this scale and explain how this evidence could be collected in the context of the given study.
(30 marks)
(b) Discuss TWO concerns in survey research that the researchers might encounter or had encountered in Study 3. Specifically, examine how the researchers could have addressed these concerns that you have identified. (30 marks)
(c) Suppose the researchers would like to examine how life experiences (including but not limited to prior exposure to science fiction media) affect an individual’s attitudes towards AI. Propose a qualitative research study to achieve this objective. In your response:
(i) Clearly state the type of qualitative research that can be conducted and explain your choice.
(ii) Describe a suitable sampling and recruitment method for your proposed
research study.
(iii) Identify TWO criteria that affect the rigour of your proposed research study and explain how the researchers could fulfil them in the study.
(40 marks)
Optional Component (5 bonus marks)
You may choose to complete either Option 1 or Option 2, and earn up to 5 bonus marks for TMA02. Alternatively, you may choose not to complete any option and forgo the 5 bonus marks for TMA02. As marks from only one option will be awarded, DO NOT complete both options.
Option 1: Research Participation
Experience in research studies and experiments forms an essential component of many introductory research methods courses. Undergraduates often gain their first rudimentary experience of what social science research involves by acting as participants in experiments or as respondents of surveys. Such research participation experiences enable students to gain a better understanding of a research study from the perspective of a participant, as well as acquire some research experience. This helps students to gain greater understanding and insight of what is entailed in designing a social science research study, which would help them to design and conduct their own experiments and surveys.
Furthermore, they can acquire a broader understanding of how social science research develops and advances.
For this component, you will receive 5 bonus marks in TMA02 for participating in a research study. The study would take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Please refer to the recruitment advertisement posted in the Canvas L-group for more details.
Note:
• Remember to enter your SUSS student PI number in the survey, in the provided field.
• Your student PI number will not be linked to your survey responses. It is being collected purely for the purpose of awarding you your TMA marks for research
participation. Please be assured that all information will be kept strictly confidential. Please note that your responses will NOT be associated with your student PI or any other identifying information. That is, all your responses will be anonymous.
• As in any study, your participation is voluntary and you may withdraw at any time with no penalty (although you will not receive the marks for the study).
• To earn the full marks, you must complete the study by 5 March 2025. There will be no extension of the deadline.
Option 2: Online Discussion Board
For this component, post a response on the online discussion board to the given question.
Your response must not exceed 250 words.
Question: “How would research methods allow you to question assumptions and challenge stereotypes/biases in your everyday lives?”
The deadline for posting the response to the online discussion board is 25 February 2025.
