Guidelines For Nursing Theory Poster Presentation Assignment

The focus of this poster is to describe, analyze and evaluate a nursing theory (grand or mid-range nursing theory). It is also intended as a way for the student to connect theory and research to a particular nursing phenomenon/situation/area of your nursing practice. You will select a grand theory or a middle-range theory of nursing. You will develop a poster. You are required to use the poster template provided. The poster should include the following:

  1. Theory/Theorist

Title of Theory

Theory Description

Theorist’s name and affiliation

Profile of theorist

Purpose and scope or level of theory

Origin of theory

  1. Theory Analysis 

Major concepts and propositions

Are concepts clearly defined and logically connected?

Is there a model or diagram that contributes to the theory?

Can you understand the theory and apply it to practice or research?

  1. Theory Evaluation 

Apply the theory to your practice

Is the theory congruent with current nursing practice or research?

Has it been tested (give an example of research articles using the theory)?

How has the theory contributed to the discipline/science of nursing?

Is the theory useful? How and in what context?

How would the theory guide the nurse in assessing, diagnosing, planning, intervening, and evaluating research or a personal nursing phenomenon/situation/area of nursing practice? Provide an example.

This poster must be in the correct APA format with in-text citations. Grading will be based on completeness and accuracy of content, organization, and clarity. See grading rubric in syllabus.

This poster is worth 20% of your final grade and will be evaluated using the theory poster grading rubric.
