PHL 218 Module Three Short Paper Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
As you have seen in this module’s required resources, cultural factors and cognitive biases affect the decisions we make about ethical issues. This point is true for us, and it is also true for characters in books, movies, and television shows. Now you will take time to reflect on an ethical issue that you have encountered in a movie, book, or television show. An ethical issue could include the representation of the culture, a specific character, or the approach to a problem. Remember that bias can be positive or negative. Everyone has bias. For instance, Disney offers a variety of media that have examples of ethical ideologies.

Directions
In this short paper, you will explore how cultural factors and cognitive biases affect decision making regarding ethical issues.

Specifically, you must address the following:

Ethical Issue: Describe a Western, Eastern, or Indigenous or Tribal ethical issue from a movie, book, or television show.
Be certain to specify whether the example is a Western, Eastern, or Indigenous or Tribal ethical issue.
If the example contains elements of more than one ethical ideology (Western, Eastern, or Indigenous or Tribal), be certain to specify what the ethical ideologies are.
Cognitive Bias: Describe how cognitive bias affects characters’ decision making in your example.
Be certain to state what you think the cognitive bias is.
Cultural Morals and Values: Explain which cultural morals and values you believe to be guiding the characters’ decision making about the ethical issue.
Be certain to give examples connected to a specific ethical tradition to support your opinion.
What to Submit
Your submission should be a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document with 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and one-inch margins.
