7 min read

Prepare and record a 12-slide (With Script) presentation of an implementation plan for introducing a new simulation product in either an academic or a clinical setting.

Introduction

Note: Each assessment in this course builds upon the work you have completed in previous assessments. Therefore, complete the assessments in the order in which they are presented.

In the rapidly evolving healthcare field, integrating advanced technology is essential for preparing nurses to face modern challenges. A thorough gap analysis and needs assessment are crucial to identify current practice gaps and develop a targeted action plan. Implementing new technologies requires a systematic approach, including assessing staff needs, developing a comprehensive training curriculum with didactic sessions and hands-on practice, and providing ongoing support through refresher courses. Regular evaluation and feedback ensure the training program’s effectiveness. With rapid advancements in medical technology, integrating innovative tools like virtual reality, simulation software, and high-fidelity manikins can significantly enhance nursing students’ clinical skills and reasoning abilities. Nurse educators must also develop effective implementation plans and present them to executive leaders to secure support for these technological integrations.

Note: Complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.

Reminder: You should log 17 practicum hours between your preparation and completion of this assessment. Review the example in the Course Introduction for an example of how you could document and log these hours.

Overview

To gain stakeholder support for implementing a new training plan that incorporates advanced technology to enhance physical assessment, pathophysiology, and pharmacology education for nursing students, develop an implementation plan for introducing a new simulation product in either an academic or a clinical setting.

Preparation

In this assessment, you will develop and record an asynchronous audiovisual presentation, using Kaltura or similar software, to executive leaders soliciting their support for a plan to implement a new educational technology, upgrade in existing technology, or change how existing technology is currently being used.

To prepare for the assessment, you are encouraged to begin thinking about a plan for implementing the educational technology change addressed in your needs assessment and gap analysis. In addition, consider how best to present your plan to executive leaders.

  • Reflect on the work you have completed so far, and consider how the content of the previous assessments might inform your approach to this assessment.
  • Be sure that your audiovisual equipment works and that you know how to record and upload your presentation.

You may use Microsoft PowerPoint or other suitable presentation software to create your slides. If you elect to use an application other than PowerPoint, check with your faculty to avoid potential file compatibility issues.

Note: If you require the use of assistive technology or alternative communication methods to participate in this activity, please contact DisabilityServices@Capella.edu to request accommodations.

Instructions

Develop a recorded audiovisual presentation to gain approval for purchasing new technology. The presentation should be 12–15 slides long, with a 15-minute time limit, and include audio narration. You may find the Implementation Plan for a New Simulation Product [PPTX] helpful.

Presentation Structure

  • Introduction (slide 1).
    • Briefly introduce yourself and the purpose of the presentation.
    • State the objective: to gain approval for purchasing new technology.
  • Overview of the Technology (slides 2–3).
    • Provide an overview of the selected technology, including its features and intended use.
    • Highlight how it addresses current gaps or needs in your organization.
  • Needs Assessment (slides 4–5).
    • Briefly present the results of your needs assessment.
    • Explain the necessity and potential impact of the new technology in the chosen setting.
  • Integration Strategy (slides 6–7).
    • Outline a strategy for integrating the technology into the existing system or curriculum.
    • Include steps for training staff and preparing users.
  • Benefits and Enhancements (slides 8–9).
    • Explain how the new technology will enhance specific areas (for example, physical assessment, pharmacology, and pathophysiology).
    • Use data and case studies to support your points.
  • Evaluation Metrics (slides 10–11).
    • Identify metrics and methods for evaluating the effectiveness of the new technology.
    • Discuss both short-term and long-term outcomes.
  • Budget and Resources (Slide 12).
    • Briefly outline the budget and resources required for implementation.
    • Mention any potential funding sources.
  • Timeline (slide 13).
    • Provide a timeline for the project, from approval to full implementation.
  • Conclusion (slide 14).
    • Summarize the key points of your presentation.
    • Reiterate the benefits and importance of the new technology.
  • Q&A (slide 15).
    • Prepare for potential questions and answers.
    • Offer to follow up with additional information if needed.

Differences in Presentations for Academic Stakeholders Versus Hospital Board

  • Academic stakeholders:
    • Focus on sharing knowledge, research findings, and educational initiatives.
    • The audience includes faculty members, learners, administrators, and funding agencies.
    • The goal is to inform and engage, highlighting the societal impact of academic pursuits.
  • Hospital board:
    • Focus on healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, and organizational performance.
    • Audience includes medical professionals, hospital administrators, board members, and insurance providers.
    • Aim is to demonstrate efficiency, quality of care, financial sustainability, and strategic goals, supported by metrics and data analysis.

Tips for Effective Presentation

  • Clarity and conciseness: Keep slides clear and to the point. Avoid overcrowding with text.
  • Visual aids: Use visuals like charts, graphs, and images to support your points.
  • Engaging narration: Ensure your audio narration is clear, engaging, and well-paced.
  • Practice: Rehearse your presentation to stay within the time limit and ensure smooth delivery.

Good luck with your presentation! If you need any more help, feel free to ask.

Additional Requirements

Your assessment should meet the following requirements:

  • Length: 12–15 slides, not including title or reference pages, and not to exceed 15 minutes.
  • Speaker notes: Submit detailed speaker notes for the content of your presentation. Speaker notes can be added to a separate Word document. Or you can submit your PowerPoint as a PDF with the speaker notes visible. The speaker notes will be processed through Turnitin.
  • Organization: Based on the intended audience, your assessment should be well-organized and written in clear, succinct language.
  • Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA: Follow APA rules for citing sources that support your analysis and conclusions. See the Writing Center for APA resources specific to your degree level.

Refer to the Implementation Plan for a New Simulation Product scoring guide to ensure that you meet all criteria. To earn full points for each criterion, be sure to note the details on what constitutes distinguished performance.
