Background:
In healthcare, organisations are constantly evolving due to
factors like advances in technology, new treatments, changes
in disease patterns, political reforms, and policy updates.
These changes can be seen in practices such as pressure ulcer
care, falls prevention protocols, the accurate recording of
Aboriginal status on healthcare forms, interdisciplinary
collaboration, and the evolving scope of practice for
healthcare professionals (e.g., nurse practitioners). At some
point, you will all be involved in a planned change within
your workplace.
After working through the unit content, you should now have
a clear understanding of how well-managed and led planned
changes can influence their success or failure. The purpose of
this assessment is to demonstrate your understanding of the
roles of leadership and management in healthcare by
identifying and analysing a specific change you have actively
participated in, and how it relates to a chosen key topics.
STEP 1: Instructions
- Identify a specific change that you have actively
participated in at your workplace. - Analyse how this change relates to one of the following
topics:
•
o Interprofessional communication and decision
making
o Implementation of evidence-based practice
o Models of care
o Developing leadership and management potential in
staff
o Staff recruitment and retention
o Staff engagement
Create an analysis of the implementation of the planned
change, the role you played in the process, and the impact it
had on your workplace. Include in your discussion a critical
analysis of the strategies used, the challenges faced, and the
outcome of the change process.
Your work is graded in line with the criteria outlined in

which this change occurred.

your topic (what were the drivers for the change?).
Body (≅2000-2500 words +/-10%)
The body of your work is your critical analysis and must
address these areas:
• Change management: Was your topic area managed
poorly or well? What managers did well and where/how
improvements could have been made - Outcomes: The outcomes of changes made in your topic
area. Were these intentional or unintentional, sustained or
unsustained. - Organisational factors: The organisational factors that
supported or impeded implementation of changes made
in our topic area (e.g. communication process, clinical
governance, Department of Health policy)
• Alignment with your organisations strategic
plan: Explain how this topic aligns with your
organisation’s strategic plan. - Conclusion: (≅250-300 words +/-10%)
