This assignment is the first step in developing your Capstone Research Paper. It helps you establish the focus of your research and identify the three key sub-topics or themes you will explore. This foundation will guide your subsequent assignments, ensuring that your research is organized and cohesive.

Instructions

  1. Select a Research Topic:
    • Choose one topic from the provided list in the syllabus, or propose a topic related to the course theme of social movements and criminal justice reforms (with prior approval from the professor).
  2. Provide a Brief Explanation of Your Topic:
    • Write a clear and concise explanation (approximately 100–150 words) of your chosen research topic.
    • Include:
      • A description of the topic and its relevance to criminal justice reforms.
      • A mention of any social movements or actions associated with the topic.
  3. Identify Three Sub-Topics or Themes:
    • List three sub-topics or themes you will explore in your research paper.
    • For each sub-topic, include 2–3 sentences explaining its connection to the main topic and why it is important to your analysis.

Formatting Requirements

  • Title Page: Include your name, course title, assignment title, and date.
  • Submit a single document (Word or PDF) with:
    • A section for the Research Topic Explanation(100–150 words).
    • A section for Sub-Topics or Themes (list and explanation).
  • Use APA style for any in-text citations or references (if applicable).

Grading

  • This assignment will be graded using the Rubric for Research Topic and Sub-Topics
  • Late submissions will incur a 5% grade deduction for every calendar day past the deadline.
