Your assignments will be based on unique scenarios, which have directly impacted Homeland Security. The scenario for the Module 3 SLP is as follows:
Earlier this morning at rush hour in New York City, terrorists remotely exploded several IEDs located in different stops in the subway system. As a result, at least 100 have been killed or injured—some severely. You are an employee with the Department of Homeland Security, and have been tasked to inform the public which specific federal agencies will be involved. For example, the DHS, FBI, in coordination with the NYC Mayor, and law enforcement.
In your public relations paper you will:
Briefly explain the roles of the relevant federal agencies in responding to such attacks and the capabilities each federal and state agency brings to the table when confronting a terrorist attack in the homeland. Remember to provide references and properly cite your quotations.
Assignments should be 3-5 pages (3 complete pages minimum) double-spaced, not counting the cover or reference page. Paper format: (a) Cover page, (b) Header, (c) Body.
Scholarly Writing, Referencing and Organization:
Write so that each paragraph’s sentence is effective and supports the other sentences, and the paragraphs do the same to each other. To keep your writing simple, you may want to consider shortening the paragraphs and making more of them, with each paragraph own theme supporting the section of the paper, of three to five sentences each. In turn, these sentences should be already about 10-15 words long as a target this contributes to concise writing. Also – PROOFREAD to try to catch use of commas where a fuller pause and semicolons are better, and word mismatches (errors).
