(1) We looked at many different factors that may adversely affect prenatal and infant development, which are called risk factors. We also discussed, briefly, the idea of resilience. How do you think resilience impacts risk factors? Do you think a child’s development is set, due to experiencing certain risk factors (either prenatally or in early childhood), or might a child, through resilience (both internal and environmental factors), be able to offset the effects of some risk factors?
(2) Discuss Piaget and Vygotsky. Although I am not looking for a summary, you should briefly summarize each or at least make clear that you understand the important points of each that you are discussing. I am looking for what you see in terms of similarities, differences, how they may fit together and fill in gaps, how you think they are both relevant (or irrelevant, if you don’t care for either of their theories) in terms of explaining and understanding cognitive development.
