Research an NGO called Mercy Corps. Mercy Corps was founded in 1979 by Dan O’Neill as a response to the high number of Cambodian refugees that were fleeing from the famine, war, and genocide of the “killing fields” (“Our History”, 2018). Mercy Corps helps people reconstruct their lives after times of crisis, and they help those in poverty and poor areas get a better life.
Mercy Corps helps internationally working for governments, institutions, local leaders, civil society organizations, foundations, and businesses all around the world to make sure that the voices of the people are heard, and that the people in the communities get the support that they need in order to allow for success in society (“Our History”, 2018).
Mercy Corps works with officials ranging from Lagos to London and Capitol Hill. Mercy Corps has help provide aid and resources to those who were displaced from their homes during the War in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they helped during the aftermath of Haiti’s earthquake in 2010 (“Our History”, 2018).
The end goal for Mercy Corps is to help people throughout the world turn crisis into opportunity (“Our History”, 2018). Today, Mercy Corps works with more than forty countries to help people with disaster recovery, help people build stronger communities, and help countries gain control over poverty (“Our History”, 2018).
