In this discussion activity, address the following in your primary, original posting:

  • There is a growing need for a broader and more inclusive definition of diversity that will allow scientists and practitioners to communicate clearly across cultural and national boundaries. What are some ways to clearly define the definition of diversity that allows organizational leaders to communicate across boundaries?
  • When organizational leaders do not clearly exhibit an understanding of diversity, the workforce environment may not fully encompass diversity. What are some of the stereotypes and discriminations which can take place as a result of the foregoing? Explain the impact of such on employees in a global environment and the consequences which could emanate within performance.
  • Include at least one appropriate, accurately documented in-text citation from the textbook and any other source of your choosing from the Hunt Library or Internet.

Read the following textbook chapter from Managing Diversity: Toward a Global Inclusive Workplace (Barak, 2014). As you read, think about how the concept of workforce diversity does not always travel well across cultural and national boundaries. There is an underlying challenge in generating a term that will have a common meaning across national boundaries and that will facilitate effective communications aimed at solving problems of intergroup relations in the workplace.

  • Chapter 6 – Defining Diversity in a Global Context: Prejudice and Discrimination – This chapter discusses the need for a global definition that encompasses diversity, stereotypes and prejudice, and employment-related discrimination.
