Quantitative Data Collection and Analysis

Case Assignment

Case 2:

Select a quantitative article from a peer-reviewed journal that utilizes a different quantitative research design than the article you selected for Case 1. (Hint: Work efficiently, locate an article that is relevant to your TAD.) In a 3- to 5-page paper:

  • Identify the research design.
  • Provide a summary and evaluation of the data collection – address the sampling strategy, sample size, instrument(s), and ethics.
  • Provide a summary and evaluation of the data analysis—address the hypothesis testing procedure(s), data preparation, statistical analysis, and results.
  • Discuss how the researcher(s) address the validity and reliability of their findings.
  • Discuss how this article adds to your knowledge about the topic, research problem, or research process you are exploring for the TAD.

Assignment Expectations

Your paper will be assessed on the following criteria:

Assignment-driven criteria: Demonstrates mastery covering all key elements of the assignment in a substantive way.

Scholarly writing: Demonstrates mastery and proficiency in scholarly written communication to an appropriately specialized audience.

Quality of references and organization: Demonstrates mastery using relevant and quality sources and uses appropriate, relevant, and compelling content to support ideas, convey understanding of the topic, and shape the work.

Citing sources: Demonstrates mastery using in-text citations or sources and properly uses APA format including a full reference list.

Critical thinking/Application to professional practice: Demonstrates mastery conceptualizing the problem, and viewpoints and assumptions of experts are analyzed, synthesized, and evaluated thoroughly. Conclusions are logically presented and applied to professional practice in an exceptional manner.

Module 2 – SLP

Quantitative Data Collection and Analysis

Using the information provided in the readings, create a chart or summary list of the characteristics of quantitative data analysis (t-test [single sample, independent sample, paired sample], ANOVA, Pearson Correlation, Regression [Multiple, Hierarchical, and Logistic]). Arrange your table by quantitative data analysis. Try to create a table or summary list that will be a useful tool for you in the future, especially as it applies to the TAD. Include the following elements in your chart/summary for each quantitative data analysis (3–5 pages):

  • Intent of the analysis
  • Types of variables that are included in the analysis
  • Statistic symbol
  • Procedures to address validity and reliability of findings
  • Provide an example application (use a peer-reviewed journal article or provide your own example)
  • Resource(s): Locate a resource (book, journal article, or website) that you think is the best reference for the analysis (think about what is useful to you in the future), explain your reasoning.
