Diverse Workforce and Rewards

In completing this activity, you will demonstrate the ability to apply theories to design rewards for a changing and diverse workforce.

Consider the usefulness of Porter and Lawler’s expectancy theory in regard to rewards. Research the theory using the Excelsior College Virtual Library. The U.S. workforce has transformed from agricultural to industrial to knowledge workers. With this change, expectations have also changed. Add to this generational differences and diversity in the workplace. Rewards must be carefully designed to meet the expectations of this changing workforce.

Suppose you are going to design rewards in your organization. You may identify the expectations of the majority of workers, but you cannot please everyone. Keeping this in mind, respond to the following:

  • Using the expectation of flexibility, discuss how you would go about applying the theory to link performance and rewards.
  • How would you motivate the diverse workforce spanning two to three generations? Suggest two to three viable measures.

Be certain to integrate the readings and research from the online library to support your opinions. You must cite your sources in text and include multiple references in addition to the textbook for your initial response and your replies.

By Day 4 of the week:

Post your primary response.

By Day 7 of the week:

Respond to two or more of your colleagues’ postings in one or more of the following ways:

  • Address a colleague’s analysis and evaluation of the topic(s).
  • Expand or remark upon a colleague’s integration of relevant resources.
  • Answer question(s) posed by your colleague(s) for further discussion.
  • Link a colleague’s posting to other postings or to course materials and concepts, where appropriate and relevant.
  • Extend or constructively challenge your colleagues’ work.

Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module.

Consult the Discussion Posting Guide for information about writing your discussion posts. It is recommended that you write your post in a document first. Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. When you are ready to make your initial post, click on “Reply.” Then copy/paste the text into the message field, and click “Post Reply.”

To respond to a peer, click “Reply” beneath her or his post and continue as with an initial post.

–  M3, A1:

Your process improvement plan will be due in Module 8 of this course.  For this module’s activity, you will focus on developing the new process or revising the current process for your organization. Use your SWOT analysis alongside the management theory you choose in the Module 2 discussion to help you develop the new process or complete the revision and ensure that it focuses upon providing a better service for the customer. Consider the following:

  • How can you turn the current process’s weaknesses into strengths?
  • Is it possible to carry over the strengths of the old process to the new process?
  • Does the policy need to be revised or completely redesigned?

Provide specific evidence that the new process will produce better results than the old process and a better service to the customer. This could be data related to the old process that points out its inefficiencies, or a discussion of how the new process addresses these inefficiencies.

You should show a direct correlation between the new or revised process and organizational goals. Will this process help us achieve our mission or vision? If not, how we can justify the implementation of the new process? You should also address whether there are any legal, ethical, or social issues that will arise due to the process being changed. You should ensure that the process improvement that you propose ultimately benefits the customer, either directly or indirectly: whether that is improving customer service, simplifying the delivery process, increasing employee satisfaction through improved motivation or career development, or developing a shared organizational vision. These are just a few examples.

This assignment should include the following:

  • A substantive 3 to 4 page process proposal.
  • Specific evidence that shows that the new process will be better than the old process in delivering a better service to the customer.
  • Proof that the new process is in line with the organization’s goals.
  • The management theories you will be using in order to ensure the new process is efficient.
  • A 1 to 2 page reflection on how marketing theories can help you improve your process proposal and how using those theories will help you sell the proposal to the board.

Things to Remember!
